Door Shakespeare Adopts New Model of Artistic Leadership
November 7th, 2012
Planning for the 2013 season is well underway and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s in store for our audiences next summer. Along with the selection of two plays never performed by Door Shakespeare, we are also introducing a new model of artistic leadership: bringing multiple like-minded artists together to create a team of Artistic Associates.
The four actors, directors, and scholars we’ve assembled represent a broad spectrum of talent and experience, and all agree that Door Shakespeare is a place to challenge, engage, and enchant with thrilling, fresh productions. With this innovative collaboration, we are confident that next summer will provide the community with theatre that is honest, beautiful, humble, and bold.
Jeremiah Davis is an actor, singer, director, teacher, and has been a performer in the professional music and theatre scene for over 20 years. He holds M.F.A. degrees in Acting and Shakespeare and Performance, with an emphasis in directing, along with a B.A. in Music. A former member of the resident acting troupe at the American Shakespeare Center, he has worked in the world’s only recreation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre, the Blackfriars Playhouse. He has performed as an actor in over a dozen of Shakespeare’s plays, and is a strong believer in the power of “original practices.”. He served as Camp Coordinator for the American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp, and has directed for the organization as well. He recently made Chicago his home.
Jason Economus is based in Chicago, where he acts, writes, directs, teaches and throws out the occasional one liner. Jason is heavily involved with Erasing the Distance, a company that uses theatre to minimize the stigma surrounding mental illness. He will be directing their November show, Will You Stand UP?. He has acted, directed and created new works in Chicago with all sorts of neat companies like New Beast Theatre, Library Theatre, The Building Stage. He has created several short “on-line” comedy videos and created and wrote a festival winning short film called Who Is Steve Shubert?. Most recently Jason has been directing Miss Julie with Vintage Theatre Collective.
Matt Foss teaches Acting and Theatre History at Iowa State. He received a MFA in Acting from Roosevelt University in Chicago and will finish his PhD in Theatre Studies and Directing from Detroit’s Wayne State University in December. In 2012, Matt’s ISU production of Six Characters in Search of an Author received the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival National Award for Outstanding Production of a Play and Outstanding Director of a Play. He also received a certificate of merit for direction and adaptation of Shakespeare from the Kennedy Center for his production of Love’s Labors Lost. His recent acting credits include Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, American Theatre Company, The Jewish Ensemble Theatre and Tipping Point Theatre. He also performed and trained in Russia as a part of the American Studio of The Moscow Art Theatre School.
Jennefer Ludwigsen is a familiar face to Door County audiences after having worked many a summer with both Door Shakespeare and American Folklore Theatre. Jenn currently lives in Los Angeles CA, and makes her living doing commercials, television, films and live storytelling. She works both on stage and behind the scenes at Noah Wyle’s The Blank Theatre, having appeared in the world premiere of Sukie and Sue: Their Story written by five time Tony nominated Michael John LaChuisa, and most recently, she assistant directed Dr. Keeling’s Curve, starring Mike Farrell. Jennefer is a Northwestern University graduate and received her MFA from the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program.
Door Shakespeare is also pleased to announce the newest additions to its Board of Directors, Gary Buerstatte and Sam Perlman.
